Homeowners can now install 1.5” scale backyard riding trains at their home or vacation properties.
PLYMOUTH, MN, USA (August 23, 2007) — The Great American Train Company, LLC (GATC), a Minnesota-based manufacturer of backyard trains and accessories, announced today it will nationally release its first commercially-available backyard trains at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, MN, August 23 to September 3, 2007. An actual, working train will be demonstrated during the fair at the company’s outdoor stand located on Judson Avenue just east of the International Bazaar and behind the Agriculture/Horticulture Building.
“The Great American Train Company is a new Minnesota-based company that manufactures its products at our Plymouth Works facility in Plymouth, Minnesota,” said Mark Strobel, National Sales Manager at GATC. “Although we will be selling our products worldwide, we thought it was only appropriate to publicly introduce our products for the very first time at the 2007 Minnesota State Fair.”
GATC sells a full range of backyard trains and accessories, including locomotives, riding cars, rolling stock, signals, signs and lights, pre-assembled track sections and more. Homeowners can hire a local landscape contractor to perform a turn-key installation, assist with installation or install their trains and tracks themselves.
The locomotives and riding cars are powerful enough to carry the operator and seven to eight additional adults or children. Yet they’re small enough – only about 3 feet tall at their highest point – to fit perfectly into any backyard landscape.
The locomotive and integrated riding tender are 24-volt battery-powered for safety, reliability, ease of operation and low maintenance. All finishes are of the highest quality and include solid bronze and brass trim, cast-iron wheels, powder-coat painted steel and cast aluminum.
The trains run on 7.5” gauge heavy-duty, aluminum track mounted to specially-treated 2” x 2” wooden railroad ties. A built-in digital sound system and smoke and steam generator are included to provide the most realistic and authentic riding train experience possible.
Residential and vacation properties with an acre or more of land are the primary target market for backyard trains. Some trains will also be installed in light commercial applications such as garden centers, orchards and vineyards, local and county fairs, shopping centers and more.
Train starter packages begin at $18,995 (MSRP). This price includes GATC’s special-edition “Pioneer” Mogul Locomotive, Riding Tender, Gondola Riding Car and Caboose along with 224 feet of prefabricated aluminum track. All connectors, hardware, complete instructions and installation DVD are also provided. Each locomotive comes with its own solid brass serial number plate, making every one built a true collector’s item.
A special Minnesota State Fair price of just $15,995 for the train starter package is available for orders placed during the twelve-day run of the fair. This is a $3000 savings over the regular price of $18,995.
All products are available factory-direct through the GATC website at www.greatamericantrain.com or by calling 1-800-486-0553 ( USA and Canada) or +1-763-476-5140.
